Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) - meeting in Geneva, 23.4.2018
Von: Lucero Oyarzun, ICAN, www.icanw.org
Dear friends,
Today (23.4.2018) governments will gather at the United Nations in
Geneva to discuss the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). This is
the first time governments gather to talk specifically about nuclear
weapons since the historic adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition
of Nuclear Weapons and since ICAN received the Nobel Peace Prize.
But while we have achieved great breakthroughs this last year and the
majority of states in the world are rejecting nuclear weapons and
working towards a world without nuclear weapons, our research shows
that 35 states are undermining it and putting the NPT regime at risk.

Five nuclear weapon states and 30 nuclear weapons enabling states have
not yet signed the Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons
(TPNW). And research shows that they also are not taking action to
move towards nuclear disarmament, as agreed to under their obligations
under the NPT.
ICAN will be at the NPT meetings in Geneva and work to ensure more and
more states reject nuclear weapons and join the Treaty on the
Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
