Prisoners for Peace Day 2016

1 Dec 2016

http://www.wri-irg.org/campaigns/prisoners_for_peace

Each year on 1st December War Resisters' International and its members
mark Prisoners for Peace Day, when we publicise the names and stories
of those imprisoned for actions for peace. Many are conscientious
objectors, in gaol for refusing to join the military. Others have
taken nonviolent actions to disrupt preparation for war. This day is a
chance for you to demonstrate your support for them.

WRI has a permanent Prisoners for Peace list, and we make a special
effort to update for Prisoners for Peace Day on December 1st.

We invite you to put aside some time on December 1st, or a day close
to it, to send cards that express your solidarity. You can find the
names and address here: http://www.wri-irg.org/inprison

Many groups organise events around Prisoners for Peace Day, such as
vigils, street stalls and write-ins.

1st December this year will also be a day of action to support war
refusers in Israel. See info for that below.

1st December: Refuse to occupy - international Day of action

Tamar Alon, Atalya Ben Abba and Tamar Ze'evi are facing imprisonment
for refusing to serve the Israeli occupation. Support them by joining
us on December 1st for an international day of action.

Vigils will take place outside arms manufacturing facilities and other
locations calling on governments to stop arming the Israeli occupation
rather than profiting from it.

As long as Europe trades with the Israeli weapon industry - the
occupation will continue. As long as the US continue to arm Israel and
buy its weapons - young Israelis will continue to be imprisoned for
refusing to aim these weapons toward civilians.

***
THEY REFUSE to gas civilians, will the US refuse to buy Israeli teargas?
THEY REFUSE to shoot civilians, will EAST ASIA refuse to buy Israel guns?
THEY REFUSE to bomb Gaza, will we call OUR COUNTRIES to refuse to
trade drones with Israel?

THEY REFUSE to serve the occupation, WE refuse to profit from it.
***

During November and December three young Israeli women will refuse to
conscript and serve the Israeli occupation. They would rather sit in
prison than inflict military rule in the West Bank, and oppress
Palestinians.

Alongside military service, Israel is also dependant on arms for
maintaining the occupation. Israel buys weapons and components to use
in the West Bank and Gaza, and Israeli arms manufacturers sell “battle
proven” arms to 130 countries. Whoever sells weapons to Israel-
profits from the occupation. Whoever buys Israeli weapons - has a
strong interest in maintaining it.

On December 1st, international Prisoners for Peace Day, groups will
protests worldwide; in the US, Germany, France, Greece, UK and Israel,
requesting local government and arms manufacturers to stop arming and
profiting from the occupation.

These demonstration will be in solidarity with the growing stream of
Israeli Conscientious Objectors, as like them, we refuse to take part
in the occupation and refuse to have any profit from it.

occupation, please visit:
