Organized by the "The Man of the Street" association, and with the
participation of other organisations of the hungarian civil society
demonstrations of solidarity with homeless people have taken place on
Friday, 18th November 2005 in Budapest, Pecs and Szeged.

At the Budapest demonstration, held in the underground of the Western
Railway Station, generally occupied by homeless families in winter time,
many hundreds and thousands of passers-by as well as the audience of the
national broadcast Petõfi, could hear directly from the homless peoples,
how they are living and facing the winter months risking the frost killing.
(Every winter dozens and dozens of homeless people freeze to death in
Hungary, because evicted from their homes.)

(The) Position of the Hungarian Social Forum Coordination Working Group has
been presented by Imre Gajda, the representative of the Source of Life
Association (Létforrás). We demand the "Zero Eviction": nobody can be
deprived of his home for any reason without guarantee of another dwelling -
has told. Right to the home is a Human Right, homeless people of the street
has to be assisted by the State and the local authorities - he has added. A
communique of the Hungarian Social Forum's CWG on Zero Eviction has been
distributed to the press and the public. The communique invites the
hungarian authorities and the National Assembly to follow the zero eviction
practice of other countries in Europe, as proposed by the International
Alliance of Inhabitants (IAI). The hungarian demonstration and the zero
eviction option of the HSF has been supported also by the coordinator of
IAI, Cesare Ottolini, who has sent a solidarity message to the HSF cwg on
Friday.
